Halls of Fame

Halls of Fame

Halls of Fame are interesting, even though they are political, the members are obviously unbelievably successful in their field.

The selection last week of Curtis Strange and Hubert Green to the World Golf Hall of Fame was interesting to me because I know both individuals to some degree.  Both have similar records, but the fascinating part to me is that they are such contrasts of personality.

Curtis is friendly, warm, and very approachable, where Hubert is not.    I’ve gotten to know Curtis reasonably well, since we played together in Naples last year.  He and my son/caddy Ryan talked about soccer (Ryan is the head men’s/women’s coach for Treasure Valley Community College) and developed a friendship.  Every time that Curtis saw us, he would speak.

Hubert on the other hand, got upset at Ryan when he unwittingly drove a cart around a corner in Mexico, distracting Hubert while he was hitting his 6th tee shot during a PRACTICE round.  And every time that we saw Hubert, it was just about as pleasant.

The point isn’t about liking or disliking either of them, but the fact that two completely different personalities can BOTH be successfulin the same endeavor.  I find it interesting how many ways there are to succeed in this world, because I would guess that these two gentlemen have taken two completely separate paths to the same goal.  What a lesson!

On the topic of Hall of Fames, I had a chance to see Harmon Killebrew the other night (he grew up in Payette and played baseball with my dad). He was back in Idaho to attend a fund raiser for the Payette High School baseball team.  Harmon hit 573 home runs in the Major Leagues before small parks and steroids, is in Cooperstown and he is still one of the humble most generous men, I’ve ever met.   Just another path to success.  Small town Idaho to the Major Leagues.

Interesting people.

I've been working hard at the trucking business, my neck is getting better and I will let you know what my competitive golf plans are when they come together.

Tamarack will be open soon, plan a trip to Idaho this summer and golf!
