Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort

Tamarack Review:

I played Tamarack Resort’s Osprey Meadows for the first time last Thursday and was impressed.  It is a beautiful course on an unbelievable property.  Tom Altmann, his shapers and construction crew did a wonderful job of bringing Robert Trent Jones Jr. design to fruition. Beautiful and enjoyable to play.

The course’s first six holes are in an open meadow, the next 8 holes in the trees (there are some HUGE Tamarack pines on these holes) and then the last four back in the meadow.  The routing does a wonderful job of using the available views of the surrounding mountain and Cascade Lake.  I especially liked the par 3, 8th Hole, Eighth Hole and the view from the 15th tee Fifteenth Hole.

The greens and tees are in perfect condition, and the fairways are still growing in nicely.  The course had snow on it until late April and with some sun, heat and fertilizer and the fairways will be good in a month or so.

The greens are very interesting and undulating.  One of my concerns was that I’ve played a number of new designs recently that had flat, boring greens, and one ofthem was a Robert Trent Jones Jr design in Birmingham, AL.  But these greens are terrific.  There are a lot of interesting areas, without being too severe.

The course is very playable for all abilities of play, but there are some forced carries that will make it difficult for beginners, but everyone will enjoy the experience.

Go play it and let me know what YOU think.
